Evaluation

It is important to evaluate a project because you need to be able to see how well you have practised your skills in the project, you need to be able to judge how well you have developed from a previous project or be able to judge how well you have done something new for the first time in order to do better next time, evaluation in projects is an excellent way to set targets for the future, if you don’t evaluate then you won’t know what you need to do to be better in the future.

As a team in this project, I think we worked well, everyone had an equal part, it was organised in terms of who was doing what, we had planned on how we were going to interview different staff but there were some problems we faced, we could have organised more in briefing and organising to meet with the appropriate staff members as it was all rushed and we faced problems with staff members not being comfortable speaking on camera as the preparation was not organised enough and they barely had any clue what to say on screen. Another major issue we faced was the camera focusing as the camera was not in focus half of the time which made the video look blurry, I felt like we delayed shooting and as this project was due in at a specific time, everyone rushed and because we rushed we never took the time to double check whether the camera focus was right so next time we do a project I feel like we should be more organised, allow the right amount of time between pre- production and production to plan out specifically how we are going to get work done, do some test shoots just to make sure the camera focus and shots are on point so we know exactly how we prepare it and also next time let staff know well in advance so they can prepare for the shoot and things can run a lot more smooth but on a good note we still managed to get some content and decent shots done so it shows we can work under pressure and I feel if we practise more we can get good quality work done under pressure as that is how big media companies work.

My role in this production was the interviewer and I feel like what I had done well was asked appropriate open ended questions allowing the interviewee to elaborate more in the subject giving us better content to edit, I had come up with the interview questions and I had to negotiate with staff to let us interview them, I felt like what I could’ve done better is help with the camera as I was interviewing I was unaware the camera wasn’t in focus so I should have checked, I also should’ve requested permission to film the interviews with staff in advance because as teachers are busy with lectures and meetings it is not easy for them to fit this in their schedule, so now in future projects I will know now I should stick with my role at the same time as helping my fellow team members and also be more organised with time and communicating with people I want on my production in advance so there is no delay or setbacks.

I had shown this to my lecturer and classmates and they said that the intro shots were good and the only thing that they criticized was the camera focus as it looked a bit blurry on some shots after post production and I agree and found it helpful because if a shot is out of focus this could then tarnish the whole production in anything whether it’s film, interviews or adverts the focus always needs to be on point because if it is not it will look tacky.

Evaluation and Feedback are the things which will help me succeed better on this course because I will know what I would have to do for next time to be successful.
